Setup guide
Start well. Keep your ledger safe.
Setup, capture, locking, and backups—at your own pace. Every screenshot uses fictional records.
Back to the overview →People & account ownership
- Version 2.2.0 is the published Chrome Web Store release.
- The 2.2.0 update adds up to four people, including P1, in one shared local vault.
- New vaults use a local PIN; vaults created by earlier releases continue to use their original text passphrase.
- Either credential unlocks the shared vault for everyone.
- New names can contain up to 14 characters.
- Use the + beside the person tabs to add someone; double-click a tab to rename it, then press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.
- P1 stays the default person and cannot be deleted; other people can be removed after a confirmation.
- Manage opens the selected person’s program choices, and manual values remain separate for each rewards account.
- The default person opens first but does not determine who owns an airline or hotel account.
- A unique full member-number match routes to its saved owner; an unfamiliar or ambiguous account asks you to choose among people who enabled that program.
- Replacing a different saved member number requires a separate confirmation.
- United MileagePlus, Pool, and TravelBank use one owner choice, then save the enabled balances to that person’s own records.
Install & set up
- Install from the Chrome Web Store and pin Points Tracker from Chrome’s Extensions menu.
- Open it, read the notice, and create a local PIN with at least four characters.
- Letters, numbers, and symbols are allowed.
- Choose the locking preference, enable at least one program, and select Continue.
- In 2.2.0, Manage saves each person’s program choices automatically.
Capture & manual updates
- A dash means no balance has been saved.
- Unlock the vault, visit an enabled supported account page, and sign in with the provider.
- The row refresh arrow opens that official page.
- Sign-in or verification has up to five minutes from opening the provider page.
- Cancel or timeout stops the capture and leaves the provider tab open; a late result cannot overwrite newer saved values.
- Use the pencil when a site changes.
- Passive visits leave manual values alone; refresh asks before replacing them.
- Bank pages show a person picker because the page cannot reliably identify its owner.
- After you choose, Points Tracker opens the configured rewards page when needed and resumes that person’s refresh.
- The green picker panel shows selection, progress, and result; drag it within the page, and it resets on navigation.
- Airline and hotel pages show a non-clickable activity indicator during refresh, including sign-in or account-owner waits.
- Hover it for help and drag it if needed; it resets on navigation.
- Click Name for A–Z sorting and again for original order.
- Guide opens these instructions, and Report opens a support email draft without attaching ledger data or diagnostics.
Setting cards & permission
- The 2.2.0 Setting page groups Expiry Reminder, Lock when Chrome closes, and Other; Other contains Change PIN and Lock Vault.
- In 2.2.0, the first Expiry Reminder toggle saves immediately while Chrome resolves optional notification permission.
- If the status is still pending when you close the popup, reopen Setting to see the saved toggle and current permission status; you do not need to toggle it a second time.
- Chrome and your operating system must both allow notifications.
Expiry reminders
- Available in published version 2.2.0.
- Look for expiry countdowns in the ledger and known expiring amounts beside total balances.
- Notices arrive at 30, 10, and 5 days before a confirmed exact expiry date, with one catch-up notice for missed milestones.
- They include the person’s display name and program name, but no balance, member number, or exact expiry date; reminder history is kept separately for each person.
- Checks pause while the vault is locked.
- Month-only dates and calculated inactivity dates do not trigger desktop notices.
- An expiry-reached warning means refresh and verify with the provider, not that your balance has been removed.
Locking & PIN changes
- Lock when Chrome closes is on by default; actual browser exit is different from closing the popup.
- Older vaults accept their existing text passphrase.
- Turning automatic locking off remembers access across restarts, extension updates, and reloads.
- Anyone with saved Chrome-profile data can then decrypt the ledger without your PIN.
- Lock Vault removes remembered access.
- Use Change PIN in Setting and confirm your previous credential; records and the locking preference remain.
- Forgotten local credentials cannot be recovered.
Backups & moving installations
- While unlocked, export an encrypted file using a separate Backup PIN with at least four characters.
- Keep the file and its credential safe.
- Import requires an unlocked destination vault and the file’s Backup PIN; leave it blank for older valid plaintext backups.
- Import replaces the destination ledger after validation, keeps its local PIN and locking preference, and does not alter the source file.
- Export a destination backup first if you want to keep its records.
- To move from an unpacked build, export there, set up the store installation, unlock it, and import before removing the old build.
- Chrome manages routine store updates.
